About Us
Sorella Chamber Music is a violin/vocal and harp duo founded by two musical sisters based out of Marin County, California.
Katrina and Elisabeth have been playing and performing together since they first began studying music as children. Thanks to their mother, Patricia - San Francisco Opera Orchestra flutist, they were raised in a musical household, playing everything from Classical to Celtic. The sisters decided to officially found their duo after respectively receiving degrees in classical music performance. They took inspiration from the Italian influences in classical music notation - the Italian “Sorella” translates to sister!
Katrina, a multi-talented musician, plays violin and sings. She received her BM in Vocal Performance from Lawrence University in Appleton, Wisconsin, all the while continuing her violin studies from childhood. After returning to the Bay Area, she discovered a joy in working one-on-one with older adults, which she does with the Hummingbird Project at Sage Eldercare Solutions. She loves being able to connect and engage with her clients using various activities to support all aspects of their quality of life. Using her music is a highlight in this work. Whether it means seeing someone’s eyes light up when they recognize a song, improvising and creating song lyrics together, or just feeling the shared emotion after performing a piece, her clients never cease to amaze her in their ability to find joy!
Elisabeth is the harpist in the duo and recently returned from Berlin where she received her second MM in Harp Performance. Although she went through eight years of classical music conservatory training and has played with renowned orchestras such as the Berlin Philharmonic and Los Angeles Opera Orchestra, Elisabeth loves playing other styles of music and breaking away from the traditionally well-known subdued classical style of the harp. She will often incorporate percussive, rhythmic beats to songs or use her loop pedal to give energy to dinner or cocktail hour.
The duo plays all genres and styles of music but specializes in classical and Celtic music. They grew up listening to and playing lots of traditional Irish tunes and continue to join their mother and close family friends as members of the Scottish Thistles whenever they are together.
Sorella Chamber Music is unique in that they are able to provide both instrumental music (harp and violin) as well as vocals with harp. They enjoy customizing wedding music and love it when couples make special requests. With Elisabeth's beautiful and inventive arrangements and Katrina's versatile violin and sweet vocals, the duo has hundreds of pieces in their repertoire, ranging from Irish jigs and reels to Bach, opera, jazz standards, and Beatles songs!
The duo is available in the Bay Area for weddings and other events. They are also able to contract other chamber musicians if desired.
